General Surgeon

Hôpital Notre-Dame Hospital is currently recruiting for a dynamic, creative and innovative  General Surgeon capable of leading the transformation of our rural surgery program.

Location: Hearst, ON

Start Date: Immediately

Hôpital Notre-Dame Hospital is a modern 44-bed, fully-accredited hospital (www.ndh.on.ca ) which serves a population of some 8,000 people with its 173 full and part-time employees.  HNDH provides a wide range of health care programs and services: emergency, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, respiratory therapy, chemotherapy, acute care, chronic care, pharmacy, clinical nutrition, electrocardiography, physiotherapy, surgery, diabetes education. Specialty clinics in cardiology, internal medicine, pediatrics, urology, orthopedic, gynecology, ENT and neurology are held on a regular basis.  The team works in close relationship with several visiting specialists, the Timmins District Hospital and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center.

Remuneration

  • Fee for service
  • Dependent upon the scope of practice of the general surgeon, possibility to increase OR volumes
  • Health Force Ontario Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative grant of $116,600 distributed over a 4 year period
  • Local recruitment incentives to be negotiated

The Community

Hearst is a bilingual community of 5000 residents. 90% of the population is francophone. Located in Northeastern Ontario, it is centrally located between Northern Ontario’s most important cities:  Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste- Marie, Thunder Bay.  It is located 260 km from Timmins and 100 km from Kapuskasing.  Hearst is located along Trans-Canada Highway 11 and can be accessed by road, rail or plane.  The region has great outdoor activities to offer: fishing, hunting, canoeing and kayaking, ATV, hiking, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.
